Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Information

  1. What age groups do you teach?
We offer lessons for all ages, from young children (typically starting at age 3) to adults of all skill levels.

  2. Do I need prior skiing experience to join?
No, we have programs for complete beginners as well as advanced skiers looking to refine their technique.

  3. What is the difference between group and private lessons?
Group lessons are more affordable and offer a social learning environment, while private lessons provide one-on-one instruction tailored to your specific needs.

  4. Are your instructors certified?
    Yes. All our instructors are
certified ski/snowboard instructors with a minimum CSIA or CASI Level 1 certificate. No exception.

  5. Are you allowed by ski resorts to use their slope to teach lessons?
Yes, we have official permits from ski resorts Blue Mountain and Mount St. Louis Moonstone. Mount St. Louis Moonstone's website lists Ski Scholars as a partner travelling snow school. Blue Mountain's permit is also available upon request; it is just that Blue Mountain does not list partner ski schools on its website.

Booking and Registration

  1. How do I book a lesson?
You can book online through our website, under the "Book Now" tab on the homepage.

  2. What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made at least 24 hours in advance by students are eligible for a full refund or rescheduling. Cancellations made by instructors will trigger a full refund to students. When there is a dispute between students and instructors and needs Ski Scholars to step in, Ski Scholars will treat students' interests first, instructors' second, and Ski Scholars' third.

  3. Can I change my lesson time after booking?
Yes, changes are allowed up to 24 hours before the lesson, subject to availability. If things happen and you have to change your lesson within 24 hours before the lesson, please communicate with your instructor --- if your instructor agrees, then you can make the change (including cancellation) without any penalty; if your instructor does not agree, then you can't change your booked lesson and can't get a refund. Having said that, our instructors are reasonable and understand that sometimes things can happen. If you have valid reasons to change your lesson within 24 hours before the lesson starts, please contact your instructor and chances are your instructor will agree to it.

  4. What if the weather conditions change to be unsafe for the lesson after I book?
In the event of extreme weather, lessons will be rescheduled or cancelled based on your preference. Your instructor will notify you as soon as possible. If you want to cancel the lesson, you will get a full refund.

Equipment and Gear

  1. Do you provide rental equipment?
No, we do not offer skis, poles, helmets, and boots for rent. However, the ski resorts where we provide lessons offer equipment rental; lesson participants can arrive early and rent equipment on site.

  2. What should I wear for my lesson?
Dress in layers with waterproof, windproof, breathable, and warm outerwear and gloves, and goggles. A helmet is mandatory for all students under age 18, but is highly recommended for older skiers.

  3. Can I bring my own equipment?
Absolutely, but please ensure your gear is in good condition and properly fitted.

Mandatory Waiver

  1. Do I need to sign a waiver?
Yes, all participants must sign a liability waiver (click on the text to view the waiver template) before finalizing the booking of any lesson. When you book online, you will be directed to the waiver page to sign and submit, and then you can proceed to the payment page.

  2. What if I do not sign a waiver or my signed waiver is incomplete?
A complete waiver is mandatory. In the case where a lesson is booked but the client's waiver is missing or incomplete, the lesson will be cancelled and the client will get the full refund.

  3. Do I only sign the waiver once for my future bookings or do I need to sign the waiver each time when I book a lesson?
The waiver needs to be signed each time you book a lesson. Our booking system is designed to follow this procedure, with the waiver signature step embedded before the payment step.
